💓 One Less Thing to Worry About: My Lp(a) Test Result

Heart stuff is never simple, especially when you’ve walked through it like I have. But sometimes, we get a bit of good news in the middle of it all.

I just got my Lp(a)  [Lipoprotein(a)] test results back, and honestly? I had no idea what it even was until recently. I kept seeing posts and conversations pop up about this little-known cholesterol particle and how it’s linked to heart attacks, strokes, and valve disease, especially in women. The more I learned, the more I felt like this was something I needed to know. Even though my care team hadn’t mentioned it, I decided to bring it up and ask for the test myself.

💥 My result? Less than 8.4 mg/dL.

That’s very low, which means my inherited risk from Lp(a) is basically a non-issue. 🙌 That doesn’t mean I don’t still have heart challenges, but it does mean this one marker isn’t contributing to my risk. And for someone with a complicated heart history like mine, that’s a small victory I’m gonna celebrate.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

  • Lp(a) is mostly genetic, it doesn’t change much and isn’t your fault.

  • High levels are linked to heart disease even if everything else looks “normal.”

  • There's no treatment yet, but it's finally being researched.

  • Low levels, like mine, are protective. It’s one less storm cloud over my heart.

So if you or someone in your family has heart issues, ask about Lp(a). It’s just a blood test. It won’t tell the whole story, but it might give you another puzzle piece.

This journey is full of curveballs. But it’s also full of learning and little victories. Today, this was one of them. 💪❤️‍🩹

Drop a 💬 if you have heard of Lp(a) before? I’d love to hear your story and thoughts!

📣 And if this resonates with you, please share this post. The more we talk about Lp(a), the more lives we can help protect.

Let’s keep talking 🗣️. Let’s keep listening 👂. Let’s keep learning 📚.
