Louis’ Health Update & A Farewell to Dr. Saleh

Today was a day of transition—one filled with both progress and goodbyes. While Louis is nearing the end of his cancer treatment, we also had to say farewell to Dr. Saleh, a doctor who has been a key part of his journey. She’s moving on to a larger community, and while we will miss her deeply, we know her next patients will be incredibly fortunate to have her.

A Rollercoaster of Challenges

It all started when I got sick first—a lung infection that hit me hard. I was immediately put on antibiotics, and while I was trying to recover, we got the call: Louis’ immune system had completely plummeted due to the increased dose of Venclexta. His white blood cell count was near zero, leaving him incredibly vulnerable. His doctors moved quickly, adjusting his treatment and putting a plan in place to closely monitor him and prevent infections from taking hold.

We held our breath, watching his lab results, hoping for any sign of improvement. Slowly, his immune system began to recover—not fully back to normal, but at least showing signs of life again. And just when we started feeling a little relief, we both got Flu A.

A Moment of Relief in the Chaos

That’s why one particular appointment with Dr. Saleh will always stay with me. After weeks of uncertainty—between his immune system crashing, infections, and now the flu—she walked into the room beaming with excitement. His labs were finally looking better. It wasn’t just an improvement—it was a turning point.

The way she shared in our relief and joy made all the difference. After so much fear and uncertainty, having a doctor who truly celebrated the wins with us, no matter how small, was something special. It was a moment where, for the first time in a long time, we could exhale.

The Final Three Months

Now, Louis has just three months left on his oral treatment before this phase of his cancer journey is complete. His next appointment, three months from now, will be his last in this regimen. The finish line is in sight, and after everything, that feels incredible to say.

As we move forward, we’re not just focused on Louis’ treatment but on rebuilding and reclaiming our strength together. We’ve stayed committed to our gym routine, and on off days, we walk in the community now that the cold isn’t cutting through us. Staying active isn’t just about fitness—it’s about moving forward, physically and mentally, after everything his body has endured.

Louis is feeling good as he approaches the final stages of his cancer treatment.

A Heartfelt Goodbye to Dr. Saleh

While today was Louis’ last appointment with Dr. Saleh, her impact will stay with us long after this chapter closes. She has been more than just a doctor—she has been an advocate, a steady presence in the hardest times, and someone who truly celebrated our victories with us.

Dr. Saleh, thank you for everything. Your compassion, your dedication, and your unwavering support have meant the world to us. We will miss you deeply, but we know that wherever you go next, your new patients will be just as lucky as we were to have you in their corner.
