Facebook Memory April 2020 | UW Regional Heart Center

This popped up today, and I felt it in my bones.April 2020, UW Medical Center. I was admitted during peak COVID—while the world was locking down, I was trying to survive.I was in hospice. Alone. Scared. Fighting lung infections, torrential tricuspid valve regurgitation and congestive heart failure. Getting tested four times for COVID just to be cleared for treatment.14 days. 16 IV attempts. Countless labs. No visitors. No hugs. No support team.

My body was shutting down, and options were running out—but the nurses never gave up on me.They became my family when mine couldn’t be there. They treated me with dignity and love when I couldn’t even walk.

It was the middle of a pandemic, but they gave me hope. This hospital stay was one of many that shaped my story—but it was also the one that reminded me I still had a chance.

A reminder that even in the darkest moments, compassion saves lives.
