The House That Held Us: Saying Goodbye to 25 Years

We're selling our home of almost 25 years and stepping into a new chapter. As we hand over the keys, I wanted to hold onto what this house actually meant.

When we first moved here, there were only three houses in the cul-de-sac. At night, it was pitch black no streetlights, no noise, just the stars lighting up the whole block. Evenings were quiet and peaceful, while the days were full of construction as the neighborhood slowly came to life.

As the years passed, we watched families move in, raise their kids, and eventually grow out of the neighborhood. We saw the street change, but the feeling of community stayed the same.

Some of our best memories happened right inside this home. For what felt like every Sunday for years, we hosted family dinners. Cousins, friends, neighbors everyone showed up. Like clockwork, the driveway and street would fill with cars. We'd welcome a parade of people through the front door to share a meal, laugh, and catch up on life. In many ways, the house became a communal hangout.

During COVID, this house became even more important. It held five adults, one child, and one very big dog. We cooked together, worked together, and tried to make the days feel normal. This home carried us through a hard time by giving us space to be together.

There were summers of barbecues in the backyard, water balloon fights in the front yard, and years spent riding bikes and rollerblading up and down the street. And I'll never forget taking my granddaughter to the fire station to watch the firefighters train. She loved every minute of it.

This house has been good to us. It held our routines, our celebrations, and all the small everyday moments that turned into memories.

Now it's someone else's turn.

I hope the next family fills this house the way we did with noise and dinners and bikes left in the driveway. I hope they stand in the backyard some quiet night and notice how dark the sky still gets, even with all the houses that have gone up since we first moved in.

We're not just selling a house. We're handing off twenty-five years of Sundays, of birthdays, of ordinary Tuesdays that turned out to matter more than we knew at the time. And we're carrying all of it with us into whatever comes next.

New walls, new rooms, a new place to fill with people we love. The next chapter starts now, but this one will always be the one that shaped us.
